CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A motorcycle crash claimed the life of a restaurant owner last night in Craven County.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:55 p.m. at the intersection of Airport Road and Old Cherry Point Road.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 58-year-old Shawn Hoveland was riding east on Old Cherry Point Road when a vehicle, driven by 23-year-old Mariana Libengood, made a left turn onto Airport Road in front of him.
Authorities said Hoveland was ejected from his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and died at the scene.
Libengood has been charged with failure to yield and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Hoveland was the owner of Beartown Bistro & Pizza Company, located on U.S. 70, near the crash site.
