Driver arrested after road rage incident results in four-vehicle crash in Port St. Lucie on August 5.
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —
At approximately 6:45 p.m., Port St. Lucie Police responded to a crash involving four vehicles at the intersection of South U.S. Highway 1 and Southeast Lyngate Drive/Southeast Tiffany Avenue.
According to authorities, a red Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a black Ford Super Duty pickup truck were involved in a road rage incident while traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 1.
The driver of the pickup, identified as 54-year-old Kevin Lonergan, allegedly collided with other vehicles after the motorcycle entered the intersection against a red light.
Investigators reported that the motorcycle struck a black Chevrolet Silverado, ejecting the rider, and that Lonergan then collided with the motorcycle rider and a blue Toyota RAV4.
Emergency responders transported the 31-year-old motorcycle rider and two occupants from the RAV4 to Lawnwood Medical Center. The Silverado driver was taken to St. Lucie Medical Center. Authorities confirmed the motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries, including a brain bleed.
Lonergan faces charges for two counts of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and one count of reckless driving causing injury. He was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail after medical clearance.
The scene was processed, resulting in lane closures for several hours. All lanes reopened around 2 a.m. Thursday. The investigation is ongoing.
