Sara Grams pleads guilty in fatal crash involving motorcyclist.

Sara Grams, 28, pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in connection with a fatal crash involving a motorcycle in Salem, N.H., on August 22, 2023.

Authorities said Grams was driving home to Haverhill, Mass., when she swerved into the opposite lane, sideswiping a truck before colliding with a motorcycle driven by 24-year-old Austin Willette, who was killed in the crash.

During the investigation, data logs revealed Grams had been using her phone and searching for a song prior to the accident. “I didn’t want this to happen to anybody,” Grams stated during the hearing.

Grams was sentenced to one to four years in prison and is eligible for parole after one year. The incident has prompted Willette’s family to establish “Austin’s Voice Against Distracted Driving” to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving.

Willette’s mother, Arlene, expressed her grief, stating, “Austin should still be here. People need to put down their phones.”

The case highlights the ongoing issues of distracted driving and its devastating consequences.
