SAVANNAH, Ga. – A police motorcycle officer crashed while escorting the motorcade of Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz on I-516 Wednesday evening.
At approximately 7:20 p.m., the officer lost control without colliding with any other vehicle, according to on-scene reports. The officer was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in critical condition; their identity has not yet been disclosed.
The incident occurred shortly after Harris and Walz left Sandfly Bar-B-Q at 6:56 p.m., leading to a brief pause in the motorcade’s progress. Witnesses observed one of the bus doors open but could not confirm if anyone exited.
Savannah Police Department is investigating the crash. No further details regarding lane closures or additional injuries have been released.
