Sheridan man killed in motorcycle crash into retaining wall on Sunday.

SHERIDAN, Wyo. — A 39-year-old man died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a wooded area in Sheridan early Sunday morning.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Jamie Chapman was traveling south on Illinois Street at approximately 2:28 a.m. when he reached a T-shaped intersection with Montana Street. Witnesses reported that Chapman did not slow down or attempt to turn, driving over the curb and sidewalk into a low retaining wall before colliding with a tree.

Sheridan Police Department officers who responded found that Chapman was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Authorities believe speed and driver inattention contributed to the accident, while factors such as road conditions and weather were not seen as contributing factors.

This incident marks one of 87 reported road-related fatalities in Wyoming for 2025, surpassing counts from previous years by September 22.

The investigation is ongoing.
