STURGIS, S.D. — A 46-year-old woman from Sioux Falls died in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 14A near Sturgis on August 6.
The collision occurred at 1:06 p.m. at mile marker 50, approximately 2 miles south of Sturgis, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Preliminary reports indicate the woman was riding a 2013 Suzuki Gladius 650 eastbound when a 2013 Victory Jackpot, traveling westbound, failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into her lane. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 77-year-old male rider of the Victory sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Sturgis hospital. Both riders were wearing helmets.
Names are being withheld pending family notification. Eastbound lanes of Highway 14A were closed for about an hour following the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and all information released is preliminary, authorities said.
