Albuquerque – A fatal crash involving an Albuquerque Police Department SWAT officer occurred on July 23, 2026, at 4:02 p.m. at the intersection of NM-47 and Isleta Lakes Rd.
According to New Mexico State Police (NMSP), the officer was responding to a tactical callout and was traveling northbound with lights and sirens activated when he collided with a southbound red Honda attempting to turn left. The impact struck the passenger side of the Honda.
The driver, identified as 65-year-old Mireya Molina Ortiz, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. NMSP confirmed that no charges have been filed against the officer, and the incident remains under investigation, with assistance from the vehicular crimes unit.
Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the officer involved, stating he has not been charged.
