Multiple Fatal Accidents Reported on Idaho Highways This Month
IDAHO — Over the past week, the Idaho State Police have reported seven serious highway accidents, four of which were fatal, resulting in five deaths.
The incidents occurred between July 24 and July 30, with the most severe accidents involving two semi-trucks colliding head-on, killing both drivers, and a separate crash where a semi-truck struck a tree and caught fire. A motorcycle rider also died after colliding with a deer on the highway.
On July 24, at approximately 5:30 a.m., a 51-year-old man from Spirit Lake crashed his 2002 Peterbilt truck into a tree on State Highway 53 near mile marker 7. Authorities stated he failed to maintain his lane, causing his vehicle to overturn and ignite. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and was reportedly wearing a seatbelt.
Later that evening, at 9:39 p.m., a 19-year-old male from Caldwell died when his 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle collided with a deer on US 20 at mile marker 124, south of Pine. Despite wearing a helmet, he succumbed to injuries at the crash site.
Both incidents are under investigation by the Idaho State Police. There have been at least 39 fatal highway accidents in Idaho since the beginning of summer, marking a particularly deadly period on the roads.
