PITT COUNTY, N.C. – A hit-and-run crash on US 13 claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Wednesday evening.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded around 8 p.m. to a collision at US 13 and US 264 Alternate near Moye Turnage Road.
Troopers report that a dark-colored SUV struck the motorcycle, ejecting the rider, 62-year-old Christopher Babcock of Winterville, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the suspect vehicle fled south on US 13 towards Greene County, showing heavy damage on its right side.
Both the Farmville Fire Department and Bell Arthur Fire Department assisted at the accident site.
An alert from the North Carolina Department of Transportation indicated the roadway was closed in both directions following the crash, with lanes reopening shortly before 11 p.m.
