BROOKINGS, SD — A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 30 and 471st Avenue on Oct. 19 resulted in one fatality and one injury.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. when 48-year-old Sixta Erika Huerta Garcia was driving north on 471st Avenue. At the same time, 53-year-old Jody Alan Weiss of Arlington, SD, was traveling east on 204th Street.
Authorities reported that Weiss failed to stop at a stop sign, leading to a collision with Huerta Garcia’s vehicle. Both cars subsequently veered off the roadway and into the northeast ditch.
Huerta Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. Weiss suffered minor injuries and received medical aid.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is conducting an ongoing investigation into the crash.
