A Wasilla motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a moose while evading police at high speeds early Sunday morning, officials reported.
The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, at the intersection of East Bogard Road and North Peck Street, according to the Wasilla Police Department.
Authorities attempted to initiate a traffic stop on 36-year-old David Nagl after observing him speeding, failing to stop at a traffic light, and driving off the roadway. Nagl fled northbound on Bogard Road toward a roundabout.
Officers pursued Nagl as he turned west onto Seldon Road, where he continued to evade them. Witnesses reported that he was traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph when he struck the moose, as noted by police.
Both Nagl and the moose were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police spokeswoman Amanda Graham.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing, authorities said.
