A fatal tractor-trailer crash on I-70 in Montgomery County occurred Monday afternoon, leaving one driver dead.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), a 2026 International Tractor-trailer was traveling westbound at approximately 1:31 p.m. when it slowed for traffic due to a prior accident. A 2020 Volvo Tractor-trailer then struck its rear.
Witnesses reported that the Volvo veered off the left side of the roadway, colliding with a barrier, which subsequently caused the International truck to veer off the right side of the road.
The 65-year-old driver of the Volvo, from Wellsville, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:59 p.m. Authorities noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Emergency services responded to the scene, and lanes were closed for investigation and cleanup. MSHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
