A head-on collision west of Guernsey on Thursday, Nov. 20, resulted in the death of a motorcyclist, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred around 12:43 p.m. at milepost 12.6 on U.S. 26, approximately two miles from Guernsey. A Ford F-150 attempted to pass a hatchback and collided with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, ridden by 62-year-old Kerry Gunn from Colorado.
Authorities reported that both vehicles veered toward the ditch in an effort to avoid a collision, but the motorcycle operator was thrown from the bike. Gunn was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and did not survive. The driver of the pickup truck was unharmed.
This marks the 15th motorcycle fatality on Wyoming highways in 2023. So far, there have been 98 fatal crashes in the state this year, resulting in 108 deaths.
Emergency services were on the scene to provide assistance. The incident remains under investigation, and the roadway was briefly restricted for cleanup and investigation.
