ABILENE, Texas — A 19-year-old airman from Dyess Air Force Base was killed Monday afternoon in a motorcycle crash at a west Abilene intersection, police said.
The collision occurred at approximately 3:57 p.m. at the intersection of Dub Wright Boulevard and Texas Avenue, according to the Abilene Police Department.
Investigators reported that a Jeep Wrangler, traveling south on Dub Wright Boulevard, turned left onto eastbound Texas Avenue, failing to yield to a northbound Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. The vehicles collided in the intersection.
The motorcyclist, identified as Jordan Ballard, 19, sustained fatal injuries. Despite bystanders providing first aid, she was pronounced dead at the scene by a justice of the peace. Emergency responders, including police and fire personnel, arrived shortly after the crash.
Authorities confirmed that Ballard was wearing a helmet. Investigators do not suspect alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident.
Next of kin were notified with assistance from Dyess Air Force Base, officials stated.
The Abilene Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating the crash. No citations or charges have been reported as of now, according to authorities.
