BROOKINGS COUNTY — A 19-year-old Watertown man was airlifted after a motorcycle crash northwest of Bruce on April 21.
Carson Klatt was injured around 10:25 p.m. on 459th Avenue near 201st Street. His current medical condition is unknown, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incident began when a deputy attempted to stop Klatt, who was reportedly speeding southbound on U.S. Highway 81 on a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle. Klatt then turned east onto 204th Street and north onto 459th Avenue, where the deputy lost sight of him.
After crossing 201st Street, the deputy discovered a headlight in the west ditch. Klatt lost control while navigating a curve, causing him and the motorcycle to leave the road and rest in the ditch.
Klatt was conscious and communicating with responders prior to transport. He was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital for further evaluation. His motorcycle was towed from the scene.
The Bruce Fire Department and Brookings Ambulance also responded to the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
