Motorcyclist dies in Geismar crash Thursday night.

GEISMAR, LA (WAFB) – A 56-year-old man from Prairieville died in a motorcycle accident in Geismar on March 23.

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. on LA 30 east of LA 73, according to Louisiana State Police Troop A. Paul Stephens was operating a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound when he attempted to pass an 18-wheeler using the center turn lane, striking a raised median divider.

The impact caused Stephens to be ejected from the motorcycle, landing in the westbound lane. He was subsequently struck by a 2000 GMC Yukon driven by Ivan Dunbar of Gonzales.

Stephens was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with severe injuries and later died. Dunbar was properly restrained and reported no injuries. Authorities noted that impairment is not suspected as a factor, though toxicology samples were taken from both drivers.

The Louisiana State Police recommend all motorcycle riders complete an approved safety course. For details on the Louisiana Motorcycle Safety, Awareness, and Operator Training Program, click here.
