FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A motorcyclist involved in a severe crash on University Drive in Fargo has died, authorities confirmed on Sept. 23.
Steven Earl Smiley, 36, of Horace, was pronounced brain dead at 4:17 p.m. after a collision on Sept. 20, according to a Facebook post by his father.
Witnesses reported that Smiley’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle ran a red light and collided with a Subaru Forester at the intersection of University Drive and Main Avenue.
The State Patrol stated the Subaru was traveling west on Main Avenue with a green light when the motorcycle struck its rear passenger side. Smiley was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the intersection; he was not wearing a helmet.
The Subaru’s driver, a 61-year-old man, and a 65-year-old passenger, both from Fargo, sustained no injuries and were wearing seat belts. Neither individual has faced charges.
According to his father, Smiley was an organ donor. “His soul will continue to live on… by gifting life to others in need,” David Smiley wrote.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with funeral costs for Smiley.
