PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — A crash on Route 80 resulted in one fatality and a small wildfire Tuesday afternoon.

According to State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, a Dodge pickup truck towing a Chevrolet Suburban was rear-ended by a Yamaha motorcycle around 1:10 p.m., igniting all three vehicles.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The resulting fire spread to a nearby wooded area.

Authorities reported that all westbound lanes were closed while fire crews responded, causing multi-mile delays in both directions.

Wildfire contained and lanes reopened

The NJ Forest Fire Service reported that a 5-acre wildfire was contained by 2:40 p.m. All lanes were reopened, but delays persisted for several hours.

Authorities have not disclosed the identities of those involved in the crash.

This incident marks the fourth fatal crash on Route 80 in Morris County this year, contributing to 297 deaths on New Jersey highways in 2025, according to State Police records.
