LACONIA MOTORCYCLE WEEK EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DIES FOLLOWING MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT IN OHIO
Aug. 22, 2023 — LACONIA, NH — Charlie St. Clair, executive director of Laconia Motorcycle Week, died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Aug. 4 in Avon, Ohio.
According to the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association, St. Clair succumbed to heart failure after suffering catastrophic injuries from a tire malfunction that led to the crash on Interstate 90 West. He was 69 years old and on his way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota for the 50th time.
St. Clair was riding with a friend, who was about 20 feet behind him at the time of the accident. No other vehicles were involved. Nurses passing by provided immediate assistance until emergency responders arrived. St. Clair was treated at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
The Laconia Motorcycle Week Association expressed gratitude to the hospital staff for their care. St. Clair had a long history of service to the community, including seven years as a state representative.
Tributes have poured in on social media, with local leaders and community members mourning his loss. Laconia Mayor Mike Bordes described St. Clair’s passing as a “tragic loss” and praised his significant impact on the community and Motorcycle Week.
The Laconia Police Department recognized St. Clair as a “pillar” of the community, noting his beloved presence during events. Further details regarding memorial services will be shared by the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association.
