RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – A motorcycle crash near Deadwood claimed the life of a 72-year-old man on Saturday, August 8.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred at 4:41 p.m. on U.S. Highway 85 at mile marker 35, approximately five miles north of Deadwood.
James Edward Skillett of Shawnee, Oklahoma, was traveling northbound on a 2003 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide when he lost control while braking for a turning motorcycle.
Skillett, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and later transported to Monument Health in Spearfish, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
