Motorcycle crash causes serious injuries and closes U.S. 36 in Champaign County.

Two Piqua men sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle crash Tuesday evening at the intersection of U.S. Route 36 and State Route 235 in Johnson Township, Champaign County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just before 7:00 p.m. involving a Kawasaki Ninja, operated by 21-year-old Kadyn Edwards, and a Yamaha YZF, operated by 24-year-old Romello Benson. Both motorcycles were traveling east on U.S. 36 when they collided.

Witnesses reported that both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Edwards suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. Benson sustained serious injuries and was transported by St. Paris Fire and EMS to Upper Valley Medical Center.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene, and the roadway reopened around 10:00 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not publicly identified additional vehicles or drivers involved. Further details will be provided as the investigation continues.
