Motorcycle crash leaves one man dead and another in critical condition.

A Guyton man was killed and another seriously injured in a motorcycle collision on Georgia Highway 67 Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

The crash occurred around 6:21 a.m. near mile marker 12 when 21-year-old Caleb Wayne Hazzard attempted to pass a vehicle. Hazzard collided with another motorcycle driven by 51-year-old Merritt Larry Chambers of Brooklet, resulting in severe injuries for both riders.

Hazzard was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Chambers was airlifted to a hospital in Augusta and remains in critical condition, according to Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch.

Georgia State Patrol investigators indicate that Hazzard was operating his motorcycle in a “reckless, careless manner,” according to GSP Trooper 1st Class Carl Hutchison.

Lane closures were implemented at the crash site while emergency personnel responded and an investigation into the incident continues.
