Motorcycle rider fatally injured in crash on Interstate 75 near Dearborn Street

A motorcycle rider was fatally injured in a crash on northbound Interstate 75 in Metro Detroit on Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. near Dearborn Street, according to Michigan State Police.

Preliminary reports indicate the rider was initially struck by a semi-truck, subsequently being hit by other vehicles as he landed on the pavement. Detroit EMS confirmed the man was dead at the scene. The semi-truck believed to be involved left the area, but the 50-year-old truck driver later contacted dispatchers, stating he had struck something on the highway and felt compelled to drive to Warren due to nervousness.

Northbound traffic on I-75 was completely blocked at Schafer Highway following the incident, with detours allowing re-entry at Springwells Street. The roadway reopened at 4:47 a.m., according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Michigan State Police are investigating the crash and urge drivers to remain at the scene of any accident. “If you are involved in a traffic crash, stay on the scene. Not only is it your legal responsibility, but it is the right thing to do,” stated Michigan State Police F/Lt. Mike Shaw.
