STARKS, La. (KPLC) – A two-vehicle crash near Starks resulted in the death of a motorcyclist on Wednesday afternoon.
At 4 p.m., 59-year-old Jurgen Sauerwein of Munster, Germany, was riding east on La. 12 when he attempted to make a U-turn and struck an eastbound 18-wheeler, according to Louisiana State Police.
Sauerwein was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered no injuries.
Authorities confirmed that toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Lane closures were in effect while emergency responders from the Louisiana State Police and local agencies handled the scene.
