FARMINGTON, N.M. – Piedra Vista High School baseball coach Jeff Kiraly died in a motorcycle crash in southern Colorado on Friday.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the incident occurred on U.S. 550 when another motorcyclist crossed the centerline and collided with Kiraly. Emergency responders confirmed he sustained fatal injuries at the scene.
Kiraly, 47, recently led the Panthers to a 5-A state title. He was well-known in the community for his contributions both on and off the field. “He was a fun-loving guy with so much confidence,” said Gerard Pineda, head coach at La Cueva High School, who played with Kiraly.
In addition to coaching, Kiraly participated in community events, including throwing a ceremonial first pitch at the Connie Mack World Series just days before the crash.
