A Norfolk man died in a motorcycle crash on an I-664 ramp in Chesapeake late Thursday night.
CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Authorities identified the victim as 34-year-old Tyler McQuillan Cavanagh, who succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash occurred on the ramp from Portsmouth Boulevard to northbound I-664 around 10:27 p.m. Emergency crews from Chesapeake Fire & EMS attempted life-saving measures at the scene before transporting Cavanagh to Portsmouth Naval Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators reported that Cavanagh was riding a 2012 Harley Davidson west on Portsmouth Boulevard when he tried to access the northbound ramp. He crossed the gore area and struck a curb, causing the motorcycle to overturn. The bike slid across the shoulder, hit a guardrail, and ejected Cavanagh, authorities said.
Virginia State Police noted that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
