Police: Speed and illegal passing caused deadly motorbike crash on I-5 in Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – A 21-year-old man died in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 5 in north Portland on Thursday at approximately 5 p.m.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, Shea Heintz of Battleground was riding a 2015 Kawasaki Ninja northbound through heavy traffic, moving between lanes at a significantly higher speed than the traffic, which was traveling at 20-30 miles per hour.

Near Lombard Street, Heintz collided with a Hyundai Elantra making a lane change, then struck a tractor trailer in the middle lane.

Heintz sustained fatal injuries in the crash. All northbound I-5 lanes were closed between Lombard Street and Columbia Boulevard until 10:30 p.m. for investigation.

Authorities stated that speed and unlawful motorcycle passing were factors in the incident. As of Saturday, no citations or arrests have been made, and police are urging witnesses with information to contact them and reference case number 26-177125.
