A Keytesville woman died and a Brookfield man sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle crash late Saturday in Chariton County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at about 11:20 p.m. on May 16, a motorcycle operated by a 47-year-old Brookfield man was traveling east on U.S. Route 24. The motorcycle veered off the roadway past the Chariton River bridge, resulting in both riders being ejected from the bike.
The 43-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the incident. The Brookfield man was transported to a hospital in Columbia for treatment. Authorities were unable to confirm whether either rider was wearing safety equipment at the time of the crash.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and details regarding lane closures or emergency response agencies have not been provided.
