Fatal Crash on Route 1 Leads to 20-Mile Detour Friday Night.

HANCOCK, Maine — A motorcycle crash on U.S. Route 1 in Hancock resulted in a fatality late Friday night.

According to State Police, the accident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m., involving one motorcycle and one SUV.

The motorcycle operator, Richard Ryan, 29, of Hancock, was pronounced dead at the scene.

U.S. Route 1 was closed for investigation, requiring a detour of over 20 miles, as reported by authorities.

The Hancock Volunteer Fire Department acknowledged the inconvenience of the detour, noting it was the third fatal incident they had responded to in the past month. They expressed appreciation for the understanding shown by many drivers.

Assisting agencies included the Lamoine, Sullivan, and Franklin Fire Departments, which helped manage detour efforts.

State troopers are asking witnesses or anyone with information on the crash to contact Trooper Bagley through the Bangor Regional Communications Center at 973-3700.
