TEMPE, AZ — A fatal motorcycle crash occurred on Loop 202 Red Mountain in Tempe early Thursday morning, leaving one person dead.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the incident took place in the westbound lanes near Priest Drive around 2:41 a.m. Authorities confirmed a 17-year-old female motorcyclist lost control while attempting to merge onto the interstate.
Witnesses reported that she was ejected from the motorcycle and struck by multiple vehicles. All drivers involved remained on the scene.
The motorcyclist’s passenger, a 19-year-old male, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. Emergency responders provided medical aid on-site.
Lane closures were implemented following the crash; however, the freeway was reopened before 5 a.m. An investigation is ongoing.
