Milwaukee Driver Accused in Fatal Crash Was Unlicensed, Complaint Alleges.

MILWAUKEE – A 19-year-old man crashed a Hyundai into a motorcycle, resulting in the death of 39-year-old Leandre Brown, at approximately 12:05 a.m. on May 26.

According to authorities, Brown, the motorcycle’s driver and owner of Syrs Restaurant and Lounge, died at the scene near Fond du Lac Avenue and Roosevelt Drive. The crash involved a Hyundai traveling southwest that ran a red light, striking Brown who had the green light.

John Ashley, the Hyundai driver, faces two felony charges and was issued a $7,500 cash bond during his initial court appearance on Saturday. He admitted to police that he was driving without a valid driver’s license, which he confirmed through Wisconsin Department of Transportation records.

Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators confirms Ashley’s vehicle violated the traffic signal. Ashley denied the footage’s accuracy, claiming he had the green light.

The Milwaukee Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
