GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash with an SUV on westbound I-196 Thursday evening, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. near Kenowa Avenue SW, authorities said.
A 39-year-old man from Elkhart, Indiana, was towing a rented trailer that lost cargo, causing traffic to slow. A 25-year-old woman from Hudsonville failed to stop in time, colliding with the rear of a Chevy Equinox driven by a 42-year-old Walker man.
The Equinox had three passengers: a 38-year-old woman and two girls, ages 14 and 6. None of them were injured in the crash.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, sustained significant injuries and was transported to the hospital. Authorities confirmed that only one lane of westbound I-196 was open during the investigation.
The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate this incident.
