A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Route 29 at Meadow Estates Drive in Fair Lakes on May 19 at 1:51 p.m., according to authorities.
Fairfax County Police and the Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene. The motorcyclist, identified as 22-year-old Mikhail Perry from Fairfax, became trapped under his motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
All lanes of Route 29 were closed for the investigation, causing significant traffic delays near West Ox Road, with officials advising drivers to seek alternate routes. Contributing to the congestion was ongoing construction on Route 29, part of a roadway widening project ongoing since February 2023.
According to preliminary investigations, Perry was traveling northbound when he collided with a southbound 2016 Mack Semi Truck, whose driver was attempting a U-turn. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
This incident marks the second fatal crash in Fairfax County in one week. Another deadly accident occurred on Route 123 on May 17, resulting in two fatalities and two children hospitalized. State data shows motorcycle crashes in Fairfax County have resulted in 96 fatalities since 2010, peaking at 11 deaths in 2024.
Crash Reconstruction detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
