Motorcyclist killed in head-on crash on Route 1 in Hancock
HANCOCK, Maine —
A Sullivan man died Friday morning after his motorcycle crossed the center line and collided with a pickup truck on Route 1, according to Maine State Police.
Authorities responded to the crash near Washington Junction at 8:25 a.m.
Investigators report the motorcycle, heading west, crossed into the eastbound lane, colliding with an oncoming pickup truck.
The motorcyclist, identified as 44-year-old Jim Hoyt, was pronounced dead at the scene; he was wearing a helmet. The pickup truck driver sustained minor injuries.
Route 1 remained closed for several hours as Maine State Police conducted their investigation and cleared the area.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, authorities said.
