JACKSON, Miss. — An off-duty Jackson police officer died Thursday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on Highway 80.
The collision occurred around 3 p.m. near Battlefield Park, according to Jackson police Public Information Officer Sam Brown. Officer Cpl. Michael Tarrio, 36, was traveling west when his motorcycle struck a pickup truck. Tarrio served 12 years at Precinct 3.
Officials confirmed that no other injuries were reported. The Jackson Police Department and emergency medical services responded to the scene. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and traffic delays were reported in the area due to the incident.
Tarrio was recognized as the 2019 Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers’ Association Officer of the Year after confronting two armed men at a gas station.
