A hit-and-run incident on Sunday in Indian Head, Maryland, left 32-year-old Harry Washington III dead and his 9-year-old daughter seriously injured.
The collision occurred around 3 p.m. when Washington and his daughter were struck by an orange Dodge Dart that fled the scene. Both were transported to trauma centers for their injuries; Washington later succumbed, while his daughter remains in critical condition.
Authorities noted that the search for the suspect vehicle is ongoing, and they urge anyone with information to come forward. The Maryland State Police are leading the investigation.
Washington is remembered as a devoted father by friends and family. He leaves behind three children, who are experiencing profound loss. “Harry was more than just a parent—he was a true hero to his children,” said Alexis Bethea, a close family friend.
In response to the tragedy, a fundraising campaign was launched, quickly gathering thousands of dollars to support Washington’s children. Organizers stated, “Together, we can help carry his children forward with the love and support he would have wanted for them.”
Authorities have implemented lane closures in the area during the investigation, emphasizing the need for road safety and vigilance among drivers.
