COVINGTON, N.Y. — A motorcycle crash Wednesday afternoon on State Route 63 resulted in the death of a 25-year-old man.
The incident occurred before 4 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 63 and Court Road. Nicolas T. Stutes of Retsof was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office.
Stutes was traveling northwest on a 2013 Triumph motorcycle when he reportedly maneuvered into the oncoming lane, passing vehicles at a high rate of speed. Witnesses said he collided with the back left corner of a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox that was making a left turn onto Court Road.
The impact threw Stutes from his motorcycle and caused the Equinox to veer off the road into a utility pole. Emergency responders and passing motorists rendered first aid, but Stutes was declared dead at the scene. No injuries were reported for the occupants of the Equinox.
Authorities are investigating the crash, and lane closures were implemented at the intersection following the incident. Further details will be released as they become available.
