A 34-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges, including felony vehicular assault, following an alleged hit-and-run involving a motorcyclist on U.S. Highway 550 south of Durango on July 31.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, Bronson Glazier, of Flora Vista, New Mexico, is accused of striking 40-year-old Chris Leanzo as he rode to work. Leanzo sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from Durango to Farmington, then to Denver for further treatment.
Bystanders reportedly performed CPR on Leanzo while Glazier fled the scene in a white Dodge flatbed truck. Troopers located Glazier shortly after at a nearby gas station, where he claimed his vehicle’s damage was due to hitting a curb.
Authorities noted a strong odor of alcohol on Glazier, whose blood alcohol content was later measured at 0.203. He was found in possession of an open alcohol container and a loaded firearm in his vehicle.
Glazier faces charges of felony vehicular assault, misdemeanor DUI, and other offenses, with a court hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. on August 31 at the La Plata County Courthouse. He has been released on a personal recognizance bond with conditions prohibiting alcohol, drugs, firearms, and driving without a valid license.
Leanzo, who has undergone nine surgeries, is expected to have a prolonged recovery. A GoFundMe page has been established to assist with his medical expenses, which has raised nearly $5,000 of a $10,000 goal as of Tuesday morning.
