A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving an SUV on Chevis Road at Beaufort Road Sunday evening, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
The incident occurred at approximately 6:38 p.m. when an SUV entered the roadway and collided with the motorcycle, striking its front right side before both vehicles veered into a ditch on the north side of Beaumont Road.
The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries, including a severed leg, and was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center, where he later died.
The SUV driver fled the scene and remains at large, authorities said.
GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident.
