White Plains, Md. – A hit-and-run incident on Friday night resulted in the death of a 64-year-old man on a motorcycle at the intersection of Route 228 and Bunker Hill Road.
According to Maryland State Police, Scott Beland, a resident of White Plains, was making a left turn on a green light around 8 p.m. when a 2008 Infiniti ran a red light and struck him. The Infiniti’s driver lost control, collided with a guardrail, and fled the scene. The vehicle was later found abandoned on Shapersville Road, while the occupants escaped on foot.
Beland was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the vehicle’s occupants to come forward.
Motorcycle riding friends and community members describe Beland as kind and devoted. Witnesses reported concerns about dangerous driving in the area, noting that several close calls have occurred previously. Maryland State Police are focusing efforts on locating the individuals in the Infiniti and gathering more details surrounding the incident.
Traffic on Route 228 experienced delays following the incident, and lane closures were in effect during the investigation.
