(WPDE) — As of May 12, 2026, motorcycle fatalities on South Carolina roads have decreased compared to the same period last year, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
A total of 37 motorcycle-related deaths have been recorded statewide thus far in 2026, down from 46 fatalities during the same timeframe in 2025.
In Georgetown County, 2023 experienced the highest number of individuals involved in motorcycle collisions within the last five years, while 2020 remained the deadliest year in that period.
Meanwhile, Horry County reported the lowest number of fatal motorcycle crashes in both 2020 and 2023, with a slight rise in individuals involved in crashes following a peak in 2021 post-pandemic.
Authorities continue to monitor trends in motorcycle safety as the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally approaches this year, expecting an influx of visitors and increased roadway activity.
