LOS LUNAS, N.M. — A motorcycle accident on southbound I-25 claimed the life of a Colorado rider Wednesday morning, according to New Mexico State Police.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., a southbound vehicle collided with the rear of a motorcycle near mile marker 202. The crash resulted in the death of 58-year-old Robert Shepherd of Palisade, Colo., who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle was unharmed. Authorities indicated that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation.
Following the crash, the New Mexico Department of Transportation reported lane closures starting at 6 a.m. The area was designated as a scene of a fatal crash at 6:23 a.m. Southbound I-25 was reopened to traffic by 8:15 a.m.
