Marion motorcycle crash results in local man’s death and injuries to juvenile.

Motorcyclist Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on State Route 4 in Pleasant Township

MARION, OH—A two-vehicle collision on State Route 4 resulted in a fatality and one injury on Monday evening, May 18, 2026, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 6:08 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 4 and White Oaks Road. Authorities reported the incident involved a red 2011 Kia Forte driven by a 16-year-old juvenile, who allegedly failed to yield while turning left onto White Oaks Road, colliding with a motorcycle.

The motorcycle, a black 2017 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse, was operated by 54-year-old Shawn R. Woolum of Marion, traveling southbound. Woolum was thrown from the motorcycle upon impact.

Emergency medical services transported Woolum to Marion General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities noted he was not wearing a helmet. The teenage driver also sustained minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital by Marion Township EMS.

Pleasant Township Fire and EMS, Marion Township EMS, Kirby’s Towing, and Precision Towing responded to the scene. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Marion Post is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
